I was fishing Oshawa Creek under the Adelaide bridge near the fire station. The creek was full of salmon.
It had been a slow day — I’d only caught two.
I looked away for a second, and when I looked back my float was gone.
I set the hook and it felt like deadweight.
I fought it for about 10 minutes before it finally started moving. When I first saw it, I was in shock — around 34 pounds and over 40 inches long.
It took another 45 minutes to get it into the back of my net.
As soon as I did, I knew it was a personal best I won’t be beating anytime soon.

The Fish Gods were good to the angler that day.
