They had been making this trip for years.
Same friends. Same water. Same tradition.
Dave had been fishing Canadian waters for 78 years. Even at 90, he still made multiple trips each year.
They were trolling a 10-inch white Jake when the rod went off.
It was Kevin’s turn.
But Dave was sitting right beside the rod.
Kevin didn’t hesitate. “You go. You get it.”
The fish didn’t come easy.
For several minutes, Dave battled the muskie while Kevin and the others helped steady the rod.
Greg Marino had the net ready.
They never saw the fish until it surfaced beside the boat.
Greg took the first chance he had — knowing it might be the only one.
It was the biggest fish Dave had ever caught.
After 78 years on the water.
The fish was released.
Later, Kevin and the group had a replica made so Dave could hold that moment again.
In the replica photo, it’s Kevin beside him.
Still there. Still part of it.
The excitement wasn’t just about the size.
It was about time.
And about a turn that was given.
The Fish Gods were good to the angler that day.
